Wonderland is

a project initiated by Chie Konishi, and it seeks ways of re-imagining the institutionalised system of AIR (artist in residence) by replacing it with collective research activities organised around the interest of each participant.

Its core activity  DARK MATTER constitutes of a series of night walks in which Wonderland designs a route for an artist / researcher visiting Japan, or vice versa. The new encounters and discoveries from these walks might ( or might not ) bring forth new potentialities of working collectively or individually. AIR at Wonderland in this sense offers the dual engagement with specific places and also with the imaginary that will emerges out of our common aspiration or even hostile antagonism between the bodies. We will then thinking about how this dual engagement can let new ideas to emerge, to be formalised and then to be represented.

In this process, it naturally shifts its methodologies and locations. It shifts between a place and space; inside and outside; mobility and stillness; form and formlessness; decisiveness and indecisiveness; ambiguity and clarity; global and local.
